CIRCUIT OF HOCKENHEIM
The circuit of Hockenheim in Germany is a speed circuit located near the city of Hockenheim, on the road of the Bertha Benz Memorial.
Create in 1932, the circuit was long about 8 km and contained only 2 long straight lines assembled by two bends. The death of the driver Jim Clark in 1968 during a race of Formula 2 encouraged the shareholders to fit out chicanes.
Information on the circuit
Circuit: circuit of Hockenheim
Nearest City: Hockenheim

Length of the circuit: 4.574 km
Number of tours: 67
Total Distance: 306.46 km

12 bends, 4 to the left, 8 to the right.
In 1977, Hockenheim received its first sleeve of the world championship of Formula 1 for Grand Prix of Germany. It was a real success and we immortalized then to organize this event. In 1980, we added a chicane in Ostkurve after the dePatrick death Depailler during private practices.
The circuit of Hockenheim was the fastest of the Formula 1 in top speeds. With three straight main lines and speeds sometimes superior to 360 kph acquired with cars driving with a minimum of ailerons to guarantee the stability in the last part of the plan, the Stadium, which broke the average of speed in the tour which would have been able to become without him, the highest never seen still in Formula 1.
But in 2001, we considered too dangerous the straight lines measuring the forest which began to degrade. Hermann Tilke was in charge of reconstructing the circuit, then 6,825 km in length.
In 2002, the circuit is renewed with a more limited plan and which does not consider any more the very express part of the forest. The circuit is shorter (4,574 km), it became ultramodern. The overtakings are more many and new stands were created to reach a total capacity of 120 000 places. The spectators did not thus lose on the exchange.
A more resembling, thus cleansed circuit in a traditional circuit but always with a beautiful straight line and with a big braking which offers overtakings. The drivers, as for them, remain disappointed enough by this race which offers more entertainment to the detriment of the pleasure to drive. For them, this circuit does not offer enough fast curves.
The circuit of Hockenheim is now similar to what we can see the others.
